As I have mentioned before, the focus of my collection is vintage Redskins team sets and other vintage Redskins items. However, each year I add the basic Topps team set to my collection. These are easy and cheap to pick up on eBay and it is always fun to keep my run of Topps sets up to date. While the Redskins Card Museum ends its run of team sets in 1972, I have created a room for more modern team sets. Today, I posted the 2009 Topps Redskins Team set.
The 2009 team set is nice though not spectactular. I do like how they have cleaned up the backs of the cards.
There are some interesting items in this set.
It contains Albert Haynesworth’s first card as a Redskins. Interesting, Topps seems to have gone back to its airbrushing days (ok, it is probably Photoshop) as Haynesworth’s Titans jersey has clearly been covered up by with a fake Redskins jersey.
Also, Topps added Marko Mitchell’s rookie card to this team set. He was the Redskins 7th round draft choice and has made quite an impression during camp. I hope that the powers that be aren’t afraid to play him over last year’s crop of drafted wide receivers. From what I have read, it is still up in the air as to whether or not he will make the team. I hope they find a spot for him. If you recall, Marques Colston of the New Orleans Saints was also a 7th round draft choice.
